Class overview

Learning guitar is a fun yet challenging experience, and having an instructor to guide you through the process can make learning easier, more efficient, and far more rewarding. While the internet offers an endless amount of information, it cannot interact with you, answer your questions in real time, or address your individual needs. Many guitar players become frustrated and give up. The encouragement, structure, and experience of an instructor who has been through the process can make all the difference and greatly increase your chances of success.

My teaching style is centered around making music enjoyable while helping students apply what they learn in real musical situations. Many students come to me after trying to learn on their own and often have gaps in the basic fundamentals of their playing. I help students strengthen those fundamentals while building confidence and developing the skills they need to continue progressing.

I also believe it is important for students to develop a basic understanding of music theory. This gives you the tools to enjoy playing guitar for the rest of your life. If you only learn where to put your hands to play one particular song, you miss out on a much deeper understanding of the instrument. When you understand what you are doing and why it works, you can apply that knowledge to many different songs and musical situations. That deeper understanding is one of the greatest benefits of working with a private instructor.
